The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) will be hosting the 16th annual European Spreadsheet Interests Group’s (EuSpRIG) conference, taking place in the ICAEW’s Council Chamber in Moorgate, London, on Thursday, 9 of July 2015.
The premier spreadsheet risk management conference
EuSpRIG’s premier spreadsheet risk management event brings the most up-to-date research, experience, tools and technologies available to professionals that work with spreadsheets to support critical corporate infrastructure. By providing speakers and industry-specific content, the conference provides attendees with an environment to gain the latest knowledge and to network with leaders in the industry.
“By active participation in EuSpRIG we benefit from seeing the forefront of spreadsheet risk management research and applications, and give back to the community by sharing our experience from the corporate world. As Corality continues to grow and expand abroad in countries such as Europe, the UK, and North America, we welcome opportunities to learn from leading experts, build our network, and keep up-to-date on current trends and practices in the field”, Rickard Warnelid, Group CEO, Corality Financial Group.
ICAEW - Twenty principles for good spreadsheet practice
In addition to hosting this year’s conference, the ICAEW is holding an event Wednesday, 8 of July to celebrate the one year anniversary of their “Twenty principles for good spreadsheet practice”. The development of these principles have been instrumental in giving business guidance of how to better use MS Excel and how to adopt best practice standards to reduce wasted time, errors and inefficiencies within their organisation. “What we don’t know about spreadsheets errors today”
The conference programme is impressive with a full day of thought-provoking papers from professors and business professionals that specialise in spreadsheet risk management. The well-known and highly regarded Raymond R. Panko, professor of IT Management at the University of Hawaii, will be attending and presenting about the importance of spreadsheet error research and testing. Mr. Panko has been active in end user computing since the late 1960s and his work includes many years of research, various published textbooks, and a website dedicated to spreadsheet development, testing, use and technology.
Other speakers we look forward to hearing from include Ghada Altarawneh and Simon Thorne from Cardiff Metropolitan University presenting a paper on “Spreadsheet risks in scientific research”, Tom Grossman and Erik Burd from San Francisco State University on “Reusable spreadsheet code”, and Paul Mireault, Honorary Professor at HEC Montréal on “Developing a repeated model using the structured spreadsheet modelling and implementation methodology”.
