Corality is currently out on the road in full force. Not only are we presenting at the ICAA Congress in Sydney this week (with further sessions to follow around most of the capital cities), we are also preparing for seminars at regional conferences for CPA – and more imminently, the Newcastle Conference next week. Liam Bastick is busy finalising his presentation and workshop Excel examples as well as honing his presentation skills to deliver two sessions at the Newcastle Convention.
The Newcastle Convention is a three-day, must-attend event hosted by Australia CPA from 16th to 18th March 2011. The event provides the opportunity to learn from industry experts discussing the latest changes in accounting standards and legislation, as well as strategies to boost you competitive advantage. Another benefit of attending the event is of course that you will be able to network with like-minded professionals.

Topics discussed at the Newcastle Convention
The Newcastle convention will host presentations on a great variety of topics, ranging from technical, business-focused presentations to leadership and management topics. Here are some of the key “themes” discussed in the presentations:
Changes in accounting legislation and reporting standards?
2010 was characterised by a number of significant changes in standards, legislation and policy – changes which have direct implications on businesses. During the convention, the speakers will examine financial reporting implications in a new regulatory environment, as well as focusing on the impact of particular changes in accounting standards (including operating and finance leases), taxation, and SMSF audit. Other topics include examining the economic outlook in the post-crisis period, and the growing role of sustainability and its impact on policy.
How to maximise business performance
The next topic on everyone’s mind is: How do we maximise business performance and outperform competitors? In the context of our ever-changing business environment, some key questions arise: What characterises business models that are successful in these new environments? What are some effective budgeting and forecasting techniques for accurate decision-making? How do we maximize SME performance, and what are the financial ‘must do’s’ for small to mid-market companies? In what way can social media be utilised to enhance business performance?
How do I enhance my leadership skills and manage my organisation better?
An important topic that will be covered includes developing leadership skills and strategic thinking in your workplace. Businesses are rapidly starting to realise that “employees are our most valuable asset”. But, how do we keep talented employees in our organisation, how do we effectively deal with change management, and apply best practice performance management? These are some of the questions that will be addressed at the convention.
