Corality, conquering the Canadian financial modelling market

I have spent just over a week in our Vancouver office, part of our recent expansion into Canada and North America. Since the setup of our office in September last year, our Vancouver team has been busy with meetings and networking at conferences and industry events.

It has been a great experience to catch up with our existing clients and to meet people interested in working with us in the future. Vancouver is the heart of developing mining companies in Canada, so as part of Corality’s on-going seminar series our first seminar in 2013, Financial Modelling for Mining Projects, was hosted at the Shangri-La in downtown Vancouver on the 22nd of January. It was a pleasure to present to an audience of 35 people from the mining industry.

January is a busy period for mining professionals in Vancouver with the VRIC Cambridge conference, Corality’s financial modelling seminar and AME BC’s Roundup 2013 Conference. During the week I have discussed current trends and issues in the mining space and have been encouraged by the strong interest in sophisticated financial modelling services for feasibility studies, investment decisions and financing analysis, in particular from junior and mid cap miners. This is the type of work Corality prides itself to be an expert in and I’m looking forward to supporting clients in Canada and North America in the same way that we do in other regions of the world.

During our Financial Modelling for Mining Projects seminar there were a number of questions and the key topics in the discussions after the session evolved around classical financial modelling situations including ‘how to model a delay scenario?’, ‘how to automate scenario analysis?’, ‘what level of detail is suitable for a feasibility model?’, ‘how to model cash sweep covenants from a revolving secured corporate debt facility?’. I enjoyed the discussions afterwards with other passionate financial modellers and CFOs looking to bring clarity to their analysis.

We are now firming up our seminar schedule for the year, please contact us on contact@corality.com , if you are interested in attending one of our exclusive seminars.

We also saw a great interest for our financial modelling training courses in Vancouver and have therefore scheduled our Financial Modelling for Mining Projects course in Vancouver on the 19-20 March 2013. This training course is designed to enable financial modellers to master best practice financial modelling techniques when modelling mining projects, build flexible and powerful scenario managers to test the project’s performance and prepare trusted investment analysis with integrity checks.

I have thoroughly enjoyed this week in Vancouver, and it is a poorly protected secret that the snowboarding weekend in Whistler was an absolute highlight. Luckily the whole Corality Vancouver team survived without any major physical injuries; although we have certainly had some sore muscles!

I look forward to another trip to Vancouver soon to experience more of this amazing city.
